Product Description

1937-S Texas Commemorative

Half Dollar *OGH* PCGS MS66

This issue commemorates the independence of Texas in 1836. The first of several dates was struck in 1934 in Philadelphia; subsequent years were struck at all 3 mints. This date had an original mintage of only 6,637. The reverse shows the kneeling figure of Victory, and on each side, medallions with portraits of General Sam Houston and Stephen Austin, founders of the Republic and State of Texas. The large 5-pointed star behind the eagle on the obverse carries out the Lone Star tradition. This example has virtually pristine surfaces with abundant mint luster visible under a thin veil of original light grey and tan patina. Housed in an older green holder.
